Kamesh Ganeson, ECCI’s Technical Director, was invited to discuss cybersecurity threats and issues at the 60th Pacific Rim Advisory Council (PRAC) International Conference last September 24-27, 2016.
Amidst a backdrop of security breaches that has happened in the last year like the Bangladesh Heist and the Panama Papers, Mr. Ganeson urged the 43 delegates from across the globe to take a more proactive stance in protecting their firm’s data. Taking lessons from the two biggest security breaches of the decade, Mr. Ganeson emphasized that much of the world’s data is compromised due to simple but fatal mistakes. In the case of the Bangladesh Heist, hackers were able to waltz into their banking system because of cheap routers and ineffective firewalls.
The Pacific Rim Advisory Council is an organization of law firms which aims to create a unified and strategic partnership by sharing market-knowledge and expertise. The 43 delegates that attended the said conference come from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Panama, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan, The Netherlands, and USA. Mr. Ganeson’s talk comes at a very relevant time after terrabytes of data from a Panama-based law firm were published to create an expose which be known as the Panama Papers.
The talk was well-received by all delegates during the Q&A session with Mr. Ganeson. The positive feedback made it apparent that the delegates would commit to strengthening their information systems against hostile elements and to protect the interests of their clients.
