We are living in an onerous time in human history and propelling towards a planetary emergency. An inevitable challenge of this decade has to do with achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is reported that based on the current trajectory the Asia Pacific region may achieve less than 10 percent of the SDG targets and is not on track to achieve any of the 17 SDGs by 2030.
However, Asia also poses undeniable promise as it is expected to contribute to roughly 60% of global growth by 2030. It was also predicted that Asia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) will overtake the GDP of the rest of the world combined. Sustainability-related investments are the need of the hour as we must not risk planetary health in exchange for economic growth.
The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) empowers businesses to advance their sustainability agenda by reporting publicly on their economic, environmental, and social impacts. GRI Asia Conference 2022 is a testament to this advocacy as it shall bring together sustainability thinkers, experts, and practitioners in this rich and purposeful platform to help shift the paradigm and push action for the SDGs.
